Fellow Albertans, I was humbled and honoured to receive your support on April 23, 2012 when you elected me to represent the riding of Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills. On that day I pledged, as I continue to promise today, to put to use my free-vote as a proud member of the Official Opposition to put the interests of our riding first. As your MLA, I have been hard at work both standing up for our conservative values as well as advocating for Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills behind the scenes. In addition to serving as the Official Opposition critic for Municipal Affairs, I was appointed deputy chair of the Standing Committee on Resource Stewardship. As a former Mayor, I have tremendous respect for the committee process. When partisanship is checked at the door, committees can properly review issues and legislation, offering quality recommendations. The Standing Committee on Resource Stewardship is an all-party committee consisting of 25 MLAs. Its mandate is to review issues and legislation relating to Environment, Sustainable Resource Development, Transportation, Municipal Affairs, Treasury Board, Finance and Energy. All of these issues are matters of importance to the people of Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills as well as citizens across the province. Beyond my role in bringing Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills’ voice to the Legislature, I have greatly enjoyed working for local residents here in our riding. Perhaps the most fun part of my job so far has been organizing the first Art For Kids Contest. After relocating my office in Olds, it became apparent we needed new art for the walls, so in conjunction with the Uptowne Olds business community we held a contest open to students from across Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills. We received 161 entries, with more than 25 students proclaimed People’s Choice and Honourable Mention winners in the contest as selected by votes cast by Uptowne Olds businesses’ customers. I was really impressed with the kids’ work, and glad it was up to the Uptowne Olds customers to vote because it would have been too difficult for one person to choose the winners. As the new Legislative session begins, I will be returning to Edmonton to continue my work representing the people of Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the provincial government, I encourage you to contact my office by phone (403-556-3132) email ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Sincerely, Bruce Rowe, MLA Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills |
